Gothic glamour by Konstantin Alexandroff

The magnetism of the dark side is always a strong and sometimes an irresistible one. Everybody keeps secrets, have things to hide and everybody at least once have been a “peeping Tom”. Well, instead looking through a keyhole, it’s much more comfortable watching some pictures on the internet, isn’t it? :D
Erotic photography dating from 1835 until the 1960′s is often referred to in the years since as vintage photography. Erotic photography should be distinguished from pornographic photography, which is of a sexually explicit nature. Glamour photography is a genre of photography whereby the subjects, usually female, are portrayed in a romantic or sexually alluring way. The subjects may be fully clothed or seminude, but glamour photography stops short of deliberately arousing the viewer and being pornographic photography. There is always a thin and actually undefined line between genres and mostly the delimitation is up to the beholder.
For Konstantin Alexandroff there is no nudes. There is a portrait, with all its nuances. “Nude” is just a label that hung up on any exposure that’s more socially accepted. Despite all this, use of this shortcut is very convenient, only two characters are replaced by a decent paragraph. Artistic nudes, respectively, including a portrait of some creative idea, and in which a key or an auxiliary element acts aesthetics body. Alexandroff was always interested in beauty and complexity of the human body, mind and soul. And Alexandroff prefers exclusively girl models because, as he says “I’m homophobic and I can not stand the form of naked male bodies.”
And he like to explore “the dark side” because as he says “positive themes are not very interesting.” This type of glamour/gothic/artistic nude combination always resonate with a large group of viewers. Alexandroff prefers shooting outside the studio and always it’s interested in new experiences, exciting tasks.
He’s engaged in non-profit shooting art nudes in a style/fashion/glamor, as well as in collaborations with ensembles, bands.
He’s equipment is usually a digital Canon 5D Mark II or the medium format film camera MamiyaRZ67 Pro II.

Thierry Marcoux - vision and interaction

Tuesday, April 26, 2011 0 comments

When we’re looking at a nude photography we’re thinking about what the photographer had in his mind, what he felt, what perhaps the model had in her mind or about what she felt or simply our desire, our appetite for sex and excitement drive us to other thoughts? We ever think about the soul of a model? I don’t think so… Mainly they have only the role of “objects of our desire”. Probably most of the beholders don’t even notices the gentle play of shadows and lights, the construction of the composition, the contrasts of the objects and colors, all the “small” details that the photographers are carefully arrange and which made a picture beautiful, interesting or exciting. The simple capturing of a naked body, a surface of skin, a curved part of the body, the “simple” exposure of the nudity sometimes is just not enough.
Thierry sees the nude as a source of visual material using building blocks of form, texture and tone, he interact those shapes with a great comprehension and subtle use of light. Thierry is not concerned with the personality of the model and rarely include faces in his imagines as these are not intended to be portraits. The nude generates an infinite range of emotional and creative responses informed by the experiences of the artist, the model, the viewer and the context in which the viewing takes place. Models are people and the interaction between the model and the photographer has an inevitable effect on his images. And the people were always curious about the relation between the artist and his model. There must be a kind of alchemy and magnetism, “taking pictures” is an intimate interaction in any circumstances, just like there is a tight relation between the artist and his camera as well. All those “small” details together contribute – or not – to  achieve the image the artist had in his mind eventually.
Thierry Marcoux is a Canadian photographer using Nikon & Hassy cameras.

Andre Turner – Revealing secrets

Monday, April 25, 2011 0 comments

For one reason or another it seems everybody have something to hide. It’s just may be our nature. Human nature. But if there’s something hidden, for sure somebody will want to discover and reveal it. It’s once again the nature of the things. “Armed” with a Nikon d80 and a Nikon d700, Andre Turner from Vladivostok, Russia, is on his endless search of revealing the beauty, the ugliness, the simplicity, the excitement, the nakedness, the complexity or the unexpected of the moment and the things. Sometimes the quite simple things are the most beautiful ones but we just don’t have the eye to see them. The camera is like a mirror: you can not hide from it. And well, quite like a mirror, the camera sometimes lying, but always tells a story. Under any mask is another story to reveal. And the photographer is like a hunter, he will follow and hunt down every image that its worth, disclose all the secrets.
And Andre Turner don’t miss a thing. He made fascinating macros, he shoot peoples and animals, travel around with his camera and capture the aspects of the cities and the wonders of the architecture, he exposed the beauty of the human body or shocking contortions, he knows the magic of the black and white pictures and the explosive effects of the color shots, snapshots or concept photography, he’s always “hunting” and always catch something and share it.
